Yuliya Oleynykova, born in Ukraine, made a bold decision to move to London in 2014, driven by an insatiable desire for growth and new opportunities. With a Master's in Marketing from Kyiv National Economic University and a Bachelor's in Fashion Design from Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts already under her belt, Yuliya saw London as a vibrant hub of creativity and innovation - the perfect backdrop for her next chapter.
Determined to challenge herself and make her mark in the digital world, she arrived in this bustling metropolis with a vision to start a blog and share her unique perspective as an Eastern European woman navigating the exciting, yet sometimes overwhelming, London scene. This move wasn't just about career advancement; it was about reinvention, pushing boundaries, and laying the groundwork for an extraordinary journey in social media and digital marketing.
Within just six months, she transformed her blog into a full-time income, collaborating with major brands like Wolford, Aubade, Topshop, Hourglass, by Terry, and Elizabeth Arden, to name a few. She became a brand ambassador for Chantelle, Pixi by Petra, and Benefit Cosmetics, regularly attending London Fashion Week and VIP influencer events.
Despite her success as an influencer, Yuliya pursued a traditional career path, joining major London agencies like VaynerMedia, We Are Social, and Oliver. She worked with global brands such as TikTok, Heinz, NatWest, Natura &Co, Reckitt Benckiser and Diageo, progressing from social media manager to senior social media strategist.
Yuliya’s journey took an unexpected turn at VaynerMedia, where she initially joined the creative department led by Becky McOwen-Banks. Becky quickly spotted Yuliya's exceptional strategic and analytical talents, recognising potential that extended beyond the creative realm.
In a pivotal moment for Yuliya's career, Becky introduced her to DuBose Cole, the Head of Strategy at VaynerMedia. DuBose took Yuliya under his wing, mentoring her through the transition from creative to strategy.
Through her agency experiences, Yuliya gained invaluable insights working on diverse global projects. She developed strategies for brands including TikTok, Heinz, NatWest, Dettol, Airwick, Vanish, Veet, Johnnie Walker, Gordon's and Captain Morgan, honing her skills in social media strategy and community building.
Feeling creatively restricted in agency life, Yuliya made the bold decision to take a break from London in 2023. She embarked on a journey as a digital nomad, challenging herself as a solo female traveller while continuing her work in social media. Combining her passion for travel with her love for animals, Yuliya found an innovative way to explore the world: pet-sitting in various locations. This unique approach allowed her to immerse herself in different cultures, care for beloved pets, and develop her digital projects at the same time.
Simultaneously, she launched a candle-making business on Etsy, quickly rising to the top 8% of global sellers and building a strong presence on TikTok and Instagram. This parallel venture not only demonstrated her versatility but also provided firsthand experience in growing a small business through social media – invaluable insights she could share with Stratly's clients.
During her agency career, Yuliya faced numerous challenges but achieved significant milestones. She won two awards: Month's Most Valuable Player at Imagination and Above and Beyond the Call of Duty. Her Global initiative for researching social media trends was unanimously approved by the leadership team and expanded agency-wide (200+ clients), even being presented at the UK Ministry of Defence.
A standout achievement was working directly with Gary Vaynerchuk, renowned entrepreneur and social media expert, to develop a Global Social Media Training programme for Avon. This collaboration not only showcased Yuliya's expertise but also allowed her to contribute to a project with far-reaching impact in the beauty industry's social media landscape.
Yuliya realised that the traditional agency model didn't align with her vision. She yearned to share actionable strategies and creative content solutions that help creators and business owners earn online. This desire to empower others became the driving force behind her next big move.
The decision to leave the security of agency life and start Stratly was a significant risk. It meant stepping away from working with global brands to focus on creators and small businesses. This transition required Yuliya to prove herself in the industry once again, but this time as an independent strategist and entrepreneur.
By founding Stratly, Yuliya gained the freedom to express her creativity fully. She could now apply strategies that had previously achieved impressive results, like growing a TikTok campaign to 3.5 billion views in just six days for Avon, or increasing Facebook engagement by 759% in two months for Natura &Co.
Yuliya is now focused on growing Stratly, leveraging her decade of experience in social media marketing.
Through Stratly, Yuliya is breaking the myth that social media success is easy or overnight. She educates her audience about the need for a strategic approach, strong expertise, and consistency to drive authentic growth, build strong audience connections, and increase income.
Yuliya now shares her unique blend of influencer experience, agency expertise, and entrepreneurial success with creators and small business owners. Her insights and strategies help clients stay focused on growing their online presence and achieving tangible results in the digital space.
